Subject-Oriented Coordination

The subdivisions for subject-oriented coordination for  history,  classical studies and  Bavarica have numerous cross-functional tasks and contacts inside and outside of the library.
They are in charge of organising and coordinating the subject-oriented information activities of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in the fields of history – in particular the history of Bavaria - and regional studies, as well as classical studies.
The activities of these subdivisions are focused primarily on developing virtual subject libraries and subject portals in cooperation with the subdivisions Digital Library and IT. The subject portals for history and classical studies, and  Propylaeum, and the  Bayerische Landesbibliothek Online (BLO) (Bavarian Regional Library Online) accommodate modules of a variety of different contents (bibliographic information, full texts, historical maps, graphics, etc.) and specialised services (recent acquisitions services, journal service, Internet sources, etc.), making all of them accessible and searchable via uniform access points.
Subject-oriented coordination also encompasses cooperating in the acquisition and subject cataloguing of printed publications, maintaining the respective reading-room collections, holding courses for users and acting as tour guides of exhibitions.
To foster the communication and information exchange between scholars and researchers in the respective subject fields and the library, the subject coordinators actively take part in congresses and symposia, and represent the library in the relevant expert bodies.
