Professional Training and Further Education

Professional training for librarians is imparted at the Bibliotheksakademie Bayern (Bavarian Library Academy) and the  Fachbereich Archiv- und Bibliothekswesen (Department of Archive Management and Librarianship) of the Fachhochschule fuer Öffentliche Verwaltung und Rechtspflege in Bayern (College for Public Administration and Judicature in Bavaria).
Prospective librarians of the middle-level and higher library service receive their practical and theoretical training exclusively at the Bavarian Library Academy. The responsibility for the training of librarians of the senior library service is shared by both institutions. For the four theoretical parts of the special course of studies the students are sent to the College for Public Administration and Judicature, whereas the Bavarian Library Academy is responsible for the two practical parts and, in cooperation with the examinations board, for carrying out the intermediate and final exams.
Within the framework of the Bavaria-wide programme for further professional training, the Bavarian Library Academy determines the need of the scientific libraries for further professional training, develops suitable concepts and organises training courses. All this is done in cooperation with other service providers.
