General Reading Room

The largest reading room of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has 550 seats. Extending over three levels, it offers important reference works, the basic standard literature on almost every subject area, as well as the bound volumes of selected, frequently requested periodicals (a total of 110,000 volumes in the  reference library).

Everybody can use the general reading room without any special prior registration. The general reading room is open seven days per week, from 8 AM to 12 PM.
In addition to the library information service, also a modern copy centre is provided, with scanners that are gentle on the books.

Reading-room area for research
The second level of the General Reading Room accommodates a special, reserved  reading-room area for research. In this area desk space for 58 users is provided, which can be used by everybody who furnishes evidence of a concluded university or college course of studies and who works predominantly with the collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

The reading room furthermore offers
  •  Internet workstations
  •  WLAN
  • PCs with DVD-ROM drive for using CD-ROMs and DVDs from the collection of the reading room as well as media ordered from stack
  • reading devices for non-book materials (reading devices for microfiche, microfilm)
  • headphones, walkmans, slide projector
    (available upon request from the reading room service desk in the front hall)
