Catalogue of Microforms on History
The BSB holds Germany's largest collection of microfilmed documents on the history of Russia and of the Soviet Union. The documents originate from Russian, American and British archives and represent a unique source for scientific research. An online catalogue of the holdings, which is freely accessible via the Internet, gives you a first idea of the collections. The catalogue is divided into countries and equipped with an alphabetical subject index.
The  "Verzeichnis der Mikroformen zur Geschichte in der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek" (VMG-BSB - Catalogue of microforms on history in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek)  (formerly: "Gesamtverzeichnis der ausländischen mikroverfilmten Archivalien" (Union list of foreign microfilmed archive materials) lists the complete collections of the BSB of (commercially) microfilmed and otherwise unpublished materials, furthermore also books, periodicals, newspapers and pamphlets, which were not microfilmed individually, but forming part of collections, and which appear to be useful for research in the fields of history and politics. A major part of the funds for the purchase of the materials is provided by the  Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft  (German Research Foundation)  within the framework of its programme of special collection fields.
The catalogue is divided into countries and equipped with an  Alphabetical Subject Index and furthermore contains the call numbers of the BSB. The user is thus enabled to directly order the material without any further research via the menu item "Magazinbestellung" ("Stack order") in the  OPACplus.
