Document Delivery / Interlibrary Loan

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek offers the following document delivery options:
  •  Interlibrary Loan
The interlibrary loan system can be used for ordering literature required for scholarly work, professional purposes or for studies and further training, which literature is not available locally, thus in Munich. Interlibrary loan orders for books can be placed online via the Gateway Bayern, provided that the desired title cannot be located at any library in Munich. For an interlibrary loan within Germany, a processing fee in the amount of EUR 1.50 is charged per order. Additional fees are incurred in different amounts when items are ordered from abroad.

  •  WorldCat Resource Sharing
The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek furthermore takes part in the international interlibrary loan association WorldCat Resource Sharing. Parts of the collections held by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek can thus be ordered via this system and delivered to one of the participating libraries worldwide. Among the items which are excluded from the order and delivery system are primarily electronic media and materials requiring particular care, such as books that are older than 100 years. At the same time literature that is not available in Munich and that cannot be provided by any other German library can be procured by employees of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek via WorldCat Resource Sharing. Since the libraries taking part in WorldCat Resource Sharing can determine their own delivery conditions, the delivery paths and fees may differ depending on the library providing the ordered items.

  • Direct Delivery Service  subito
subito is a fee-based document delivery service offered by German, Austrian and Swiss libraries. Via subito copies of journal articles or from a book and books for home lending can be ordered for delivery to the address stated by the user. This service is based on the collections of the libraries taking part in subito, which can be searched online in the subito catalogues. subito's service is available to anyone upon free registration on the subito website.

  •  Document Delivery Service "Old Book"
The document delivery service "Old Book" offers copies from newspapers or from old and rare printed works at its own terms and conditions. Such old books are as a rule works in need of special care when producing copies or works published before 1850.

  •  Fee-Based Book Delivery
Our users can have books ordered for home lending via the BSB catalogue in OPACplus sent to them by post, instead of collecting them in person at the local lending desk.
