The photographers and women’s rights campaigners Anita Augspurg (1857 – 1943) and Sophia Goudstikker (1865 – 1924) founded the photo studio Elvira in 1887.
Due to its facade, the building erected in 1887 was given mocking names such as "dragon’s castle" or "Chinese embassy".
