Use of the WLAN and Internet
For academic purposes free-of-charge Internet access is provided for registered users in all reading rooms and on the ground floor (local lending area). Corresponding Internet work places are provided in these areas.
In the reading rooms and in the area of the cafeteria several different types of WLAN (WiFi) access are available to choose from. Apart from these areas, there is no blanket coverage with WLAN access points in the building.
Students who have not yet reached legal age are unfortunately excluded from access for legal reasons.
Access data and access requirements
All users of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek can use the library's WLAN access, provided that they are at least 18 years old and have a valid reader pass.
- The network name (SSID) for registration is: BSB-1
- Data transmission takes place in encrypted manner, in accordance with the WPA2 safety standard for mobile communications networks. A network key needs to be input. Please enter: bsblesesaalwlan
To register for Internet use in the BSB network your user number and your OPAC password are used. You need to set up a proxy server for this purpose.
- Please activate the option "automatic recognition of proxy settings" in the network settings of your operating system or web browser.
- In case this does not work, the settings can also be input manually.
IP address of the proxy server: 172.17.1.5
Please select the web browser for which you wish to set up the WLAN:
WLAN access is possible also with Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices.
In case you encounter problems setting up the WLAN access, please contact our staff at the information counters (General Reading Room or ground floor). The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek offers limited technical support in the event of network problems.
Persons without reader pass are not granted access to the WLAN BSB-1.
For students and staff members of the Munich universities and colleges and scholars on a business trip Internet access is provided also at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek by the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre. Access is available via eduroam and with the SSID lrz (by means of VPN).
The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre provides all important information on this on the Internet.
Please note: For technical support concerning these networks please contact the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (24-hour hotline and online support).
Users do not need to have a reader account, but can connect directly via (SSID) @BayernWLAN with one of the numerous hotspots provided by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in cooperation with the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre.
In almost all user areas of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Bavarian WLAN is accessible for everybody – free of charge, open and unrestricted.
