Use of lockers

Outdoor coats, jackets, bags, briefcases, laptop bags need to be put in lockers before entering the reading rooms and the book collection area.

Lockers can be found on the ground floor, the basement floor and on the 3rd floor for the East European, Oriental and Asian Reading Room. They need to be emptied daily before leaving the library.

Renting lockers

For books and other paperwork that you do not wish to take home every day, special lockers can also be rented for a longer period of time. These lockers are on the ground floor in the area of the pay machines and on the basement floor in front of the entrance of the cafeteria.

Allocation of lockers

Lockers can be rented by users with a valid reader pass of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Please contact the service desk 2 in the marble hall:

Period of rent

The lockers are allocated in the order of date of receipt of the requests. The period of rent is at least two and at most twelve months. This period can be extended provided that there is no waiting list for the allocation of the lockers.

Fees

The fee is € 7.50/ month for a small locker and € 10.00/ month for a large locker. A one-off deposit of € 80.00 is required. This deposit will be refunded by bank transfer after the expiration of the period of rent.

Further information

The right of use of the locker is not transferable. A short-term transfer to third parties is not admissible either. In case of damage to the locker you will be held liable up to the full amount of the damage caused. If the key is not returned after the expiry of the rent term, the library will have the locker emptied and the lock exchanged at your expense. The content of the locker will be treated as lost property.

In case of loss of the key, € 75.00 will be charged for exchanging the lock and € 5.00 will be charged for the loss of the key ring.
