With its collections the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek provides a broad offer for the personal (vocational) further qualification of teachers and for use in their teaching work (drawing up written tests for the students).

Using the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek individually (further qualification)

The books and periodicals available in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek can be searched in BSB DISCOVER!. The Database Information System (DBIS) provides access to a multiplicity of databases on almost all subjects. In addition there are the subject portals on the fields of collection emphasis of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

For ordering media from the collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and for using the electronic journals and the databases you need to request admission as user of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and a reader pass.

Literature which is not available in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek or any other Munich library can be ordered using the interlibrary loan system. In case you do not live in Munich, the collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek are usually available to you also without a BSB reader pass via your local library, using the interlibrary loan system.

For detailed information on how to use the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (searching and ordering, reading rooms, databases, etc.) you can watch our tutorials online on our website or visit one of the introductory courses, which take place regularly on our premises (no prior registration required).

The reference collections shelved in the reading rooms of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek provide you with basic and introductory literature on all subject areas (General Reading Room) and the latest issues of around 18,000 predominantly academic journals (Periodicals Reading Room).

Using the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek for teaching

With the aid of the online facilities of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek you can explain the search and order options in the online catalogue BSB DISCOVER! and demonstrate the external access, as well as the targeted use of the electronic media (e-journals, databases) in school lessons. For this purpose you should have your own, personal reader pass.

Introductions or guided tours by third parties (i.e. teachers, etc.) are not possible in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Instead, you can book an introduction to using the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek for students.
