The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is one of the largest and most important universal libraries worldwide. Among its holdings there are numerous world-famous, precious works of the written cultural heritage of mankind. The app "Famous Books" presents an exquisite selection of these works: 52 most valuable manuscripts, unique incunabula (early printed works) and rare and precious printed works form the Occident and the Orient.
All of them are invaluably precious, and the originals can be shown in exhibitions only rarely. The complete digital copies of these works in brilliant colours invite you to come on a fascinating discovery trip of the treasures of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. All manuscripts and prints can be browsed in their entirety and with infinite zoom.
Among the selected works are for example the manuscript A of the Song of the Nibelungs, all eight volumes of the Ottheinrich Bible, a specimen each of the Gutenberg Bible and of Schedel's World Chronicle, the oldest manuscript of the Babylonian Talmud or "Parzival" by Wolfram von Eschenbach.
In the new 2.0 version of the app, which is available free of charge in both German and English, the digital treasures are shown in a new visual design, in an even clearer arrangement and at a resolution of 300 dpi. The new layout follows the principles of flat design. It adjusts optimally to different display sizes.
