About the event

Although astronomy forms part of the oldest scholarly disciplines of all, it still presents us with genuine surprises and fundamentally new findings about the universe. The discoveries of dark energy, gravitational waves and planets outside our solar system have demonstrated impressively that we are still far from having seen all phenomena that the universe has to offer.

Encouraged by the successes of the past 20 years, astronomers are currently developing a new generation of supertelescopes which will revolutionize their science. The astrophysicist Jochen Liske introduces a number of these beacon projects and explains which scientific questions they are intended to answer.
