With the motto "Knowledge. Share. Discover." libraries throughout Germany will direct a spotlight on their collections and services nationwide for the first time on 4 April 2025.
People are invited to experience their libraries in a new way with a varied programme of events, workshops, readings and guided tours.
More information on all events and the backgrounds of the first Germany-wide Night of the Libraries is also available here: www.nachtderbibliotheken.de
Patronage
The patron of the Germany-wide Night of the Libraries is Elke Büdenbender. To her, libraries are places where a plethora of knowledge is not only stored, but is made accessible to the public. "Libraries are places where stories and information are shared. And they are places where people can discover something new."
Initiators
The nationwide Night of the Libraries is an initiative of the German Library Association (dbv e. V.) and its 16 state associations. With over 2,000 members Germany-wide, the dbv represents more than 8,000 libraries with 25,000 employees. The association is committed to the development of innovative library services for science, scholarship and society. As a political interest group, it focuses on supporting libraries in the areas of information literacy, media education and the promotion of reading and helps them ensure that every citizen can participate in culture and society.
