The photographic archive Hoffmann preserved by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek today counts among the world's most important image archives on the time of National Socialism.
This importance is based above all on the biography of the photographer: Heinrich Hoffmann accompanied Adolf Hitler for almost a quarter of a century as his personal photographer and confidant. He helped set the stage for the party and the "Führer" as of the beginnings of the NSDAP. As of 1933, his company focused the lens on the "Third Reich", creating photographs which continue to have an effect up to the present day.
About the lecture
In his lecture, Sebastian Peters discusses the scarcely known life of Hoffmann and the special role played by the photographer in Hitler's entourage.
In addition, the lecture also addresses his photographic legacy: How were Hoffmann's images created and what purpose did he pursue with his photographs? And how can we look behind the façade of the staging today?
