You are cordially invited to the book presentation of the new publication by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Martina Hartmann: "Es fragt die Welt nach meinem Ziel, nach deiner letzten Stunde nichts." The scholar couple Hildegund and Ottokar Menzel (1910 – 1945)

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH) in 2019, Martina Hartmann researched young MGH employees who worked for the Reichsinstitut für ältere deutsche Geschichtskunde (MGH) in the time of the NS regime. This research developed into the present book project.

In a first lecture in 2021, Martina Hartmann had reconstructed the life of the scholar couple in the Third Reich on the basis of the then accessible (printed) sources.  After the lecture had been made accessible on the Internet, descendants of the families Menzel and Rogner, but also of friends and colleagues of the couple, made available numerous further sources from private ownership, with the aid of which is was possible to draw a more detailed picture of the life and the circumstances surrounding the death of Hildegund and Ottokar Menzel: A surprising search for clues, which also raised the question of how colleagues and friends had handled their knowledge about the fate of the young couple in the time after the war.
