On 28 June 2021, a digital workshop takes place informing about digital bibliographies and search tools of the Specialised Information Services for Historical Studies and Classical Studies.
The use of digital search tools is a prerequisite for successful scholarly work in academic studies, teaching and research. Bibliographic databases and meta search services have been established in historical studies for a long time and offer significant additional benefits as compared to tools in printed form: The data collections are of a broader structure and more up to date, modern search engine technology facilitates locating and post-using the data, and research can take place independently of collections available locally. An efficient and comprehensive use of these services requires certain skills, which are to be conveyed and applied in practice in the workshop.
The workshop focuses on four services, which are relevant to historians and are developed within the scope of the Specialised Information Services for Historical Studies and Classical Studies by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and its cooperation partners: Gnomon Bibliographische Datenbank, Deutsche Historische Bibliografie, historicumSEARCH and PropylaeumSEARCH. Participants receive first-hand information about the current status of the projects, the content customisation of the data collections, their subject-related and systematic structuring, as well as search functions, availability information and export options for bibliographic meta data. Theoretical knowledge can be applied and enhanced in practice.
