About the workshop

Since the "Jahresberichte für Deutsche Geschichte" (Annual Reports on German History) and previously also the "Historische Bibliographie" (Historical Bibliography) have both been discontinued, there is currently no bibliography related to the subject of historical science that covers several epochs and goes beyond current publications on German history or German historical science. In order to compensate for this deficiency, the Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies and its partners are currently working on establishing a new research tool, which is intended to close the gap in the information provision for historical science in the form of the "Deutsche Historische Bibliografie" (DHB, German Historical Bibliography). The founding partners participating in the project are the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Contemporary History and the Deutsches Museum.

Since the gap between the continuous annual increase in publications of relevance for the field of historical science and the available resources for developing a suitable cataloguing and access tool becomes increasingly hard to bridge, such a venture can be mastered only through cooperation and the use of high-efficiency data-technological methods. At the same time, the DHB is intended to offer a modern user interface and as broad a spectrum of services as possible.

The goal of the workshop is to explain and discuss the work in the areas of the indexing concept, content profile, methods of data harvesting and possibilities of use. Moreover, the workshop introduces perspectives for winning further partners and shows examples of possible types of cooperation between different actors in the field of subject-related bibliography. The special challenges posed by the subject indexing and the use of modern methods for structuring large numbers of publications will also be discussed. The workshop is organised by the founding institutions of the DHB in cooperation with the Working Group Digital Historical Science of the German Historical Association and with the Expert Network Historical Sciences Munich.

About the framework programme

In addition to the lecture programme, the workshop is intended to offer the participants an opportunity for mutual exchange.
