About the event

In view of the quantity and quality of holdings of music materials of all epochs, up to the latest international productions of sheet music, the music collection of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek forms part of the world’s leading music libraries. One important institutional collection mandate is directed to artistic and biographic sources on composers and musicians from Bavaria.

The concert series "(d#)sonances. (Modern musical art in Bavaria)" presents the sound of the present and contemporary music culture in cooperation with the associations of musical artists Tonkünstlerverband Bayern e. V. and Tonkünstler München e. V. – an inspiring, intensive experience that constitutes a thrilling challenge for our aesthetic customs.

The second concert of our (#d)sonances series bearing the title "The aftermath of the Second Viennese School in Bavaria" is dedicated to the twelve-tone music created 100 years ago. A formative role was played by Arnold Schönberg, who said about himself: "I am conservative. I conserve the progress."

Works by Arnold Schönberg, Philippine Schick, Wolfgang Fortner, Fritz Büchtger, Helmut Lachenmann, Wilhelm Killmayer, Dieter Schnebel, Volker Nickel and Johannes X. Schachtner will be played.
The performers are Brigitte Helbig (piano), Andreas Skouras (piano) and Katerina Giannitsioti (violoncello).
