About the lecture

The view of the world widened in the course of the 16th century. But what did our countrymen imagine faraway countries to be like? Dr. Bernhard Lübbers (Regensburg) explores this question on the basis of the famous map of the year 1530 produced for the trading house of the Welser family from Augsburg, who had taken first steps towards a colonization of Venezuela at the time.

About the exhibition

Titled "Gott, die Welt und Bayern", the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek presents one hundred highlights of the ten regional State Libraries of Bavaria in its treasure vaults from 17 October 2018 to 7 July 2019. There will be medieval manuscripts, incunabula, precious printed works, cartographic works, globes, posters, letters and many more exhibits. The regional State Libraries safeguard precious treasures in their vaults and stacks; the diversity of the collections is impressive. This is sufficient reason to present at least a selection of these treasures to the broad public jointly in a big exhibition.
