About the event

Artificial intelligence (AI) stands for machines that can speak, learn and solve problems – sometimes even quicker and better than humans. How do these machines work? Do they pose a threat; will they even make us superfluous?

The journalist and AI expert Manuela Lenzen explains what artificial intelligence is capable of and what it has in store for us. Intelligent computer systems provide medical diagnoses and legal counsel. They manage the stock trade and will soon steer our cars. Robots becoming ever more intelligent work on assembly lines and guide us through museums. However, this utopia of a beautiful, new, intelligent world of technology has also long been accompanied by fears: of artificial intelligence monitoring us day and night, taking over our jobs and eluding control by us. Manuela Lenzen shows which hopes and fears are realistic and which belong to the realm of science fiction. She describes what a good life with artificial intelligence could be like – and that we could learn a lot about ourselves from intelligent machines.

Moderator: Christiane Miethge, Bayerischer Rundfunk
