About the lecture

The 19th century was the golden age of the princely state of Coburg. The small state rose to Europe-wide influence through the liberal politics of the duke, the marriage of his brother Albert with the British Queen Victoria and a wide network reaching into the world of music and art. The house chronicle of Duchess Alexandrine directly documents all of these events. Dr. Silvia Pfister (Coburg) gives insight into an unparalleled testament to an exciting time.

About the exhibition

Titled "Gott, die Welt und Bayern", the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek presents one hundred highlights of the ten regional State Libraries of Bavaria in its treasure vaults from 17 October 2018 to 7 July 2019. There will be medieval manuscripts, incunabula, precious printed works, cartographic works, globes, posters, letters and many more exhibits. The regional State Libraries safeguard precious treasures in their vaults and stacks; the diversity of the collections is impressive. This is sufficient reason to present at least a selection of these treasures to the broad public jointly in a big exhibition.
