FaMI training (specialist for media and information services)

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek as the official body (so-called zuständige Stelle) oversees the traineeship of the specialists in media and information services. This vocational training is conducted in the dual system with two places of learning: the workplace (libraries) and a vocational school (Berufsschule). Internships in the administration, in other libraries as well as institutions for information and media services complement the two main places of learning. The traineeship is usually completed within three years. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek as zuständige Stelle is responsible for the formal recognition of workplaces as qualified places of learning. It also acts as examination office. It provides advice for trainee librarians, trainers and employers providing the apprenticeships.
