Register of printed works of the 16th century published in German-speaking countries (VD 16)

The bibliographic cataloguing of printed works of the 16th century was supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 1969 to 1999 and has since been continued with funds from the budget of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek itself.

After the printed issue, including the register volumes, had been finished in the year 2000, the VD 16 has now also been made available in the form of a database. Ownership records of libraries in Germany and abroad are added continuously. The supplement of the printed edition, which is continued electronically only, comprises over 25,000 titles and is continuously expanded by title notifications of various libraries and the new acquisitions of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek made within the framework of the "Sammlung Deutscher Drucke" ("Collection of German Printed Works").

Since February 2006, the holdings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek bearing relevance for the VD 16 have been digitized with the support of the DFG. The links to the images can be found in the VD 16 and in BSB DISCOVER!.
