Born in Berlin in 1914, died in Bad Pyrmont in 1982.
Interested in photography already as a 13 year-old. Studies of architecture. Deployment in the 2nd World War, private photography during this time. As of June 1945 building worker in Bad Pyrmont. As of 1947 editor and photographer at the youth magazine "Zick-Zack" in Hanover. April 1948: Henri Nannen takes over the licence and staff of "Zick-Zack" and turns it into STERN.
1948 to 1953 in charge of the STERN layout, from 1953 to 1981 photo reporter at the STERN. Took many journeys, predominantly to East Europe, later worked increasingly on scholarly and medical topics.
