The Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books, Division Personal Papers and Autographs, has acquired part of the personal papers of the Munich painter and academy professor Ludwig von Herterich (1856 – 1932).

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has recently acquired an album and armorial containing twelve rare gouache works of the Munich Renaissance painter Bartholomäus Reiter (1570 – 1622). Created between 1568 and 1621, the manuscript is the first testament to the master painter forming part of the collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Apparently, it is also the first manuscript evidently created by his hand to be found worldwide.

A further 37 outstanding works of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek have been made available in the World Digital Library (WDL) a short time ago. Thus, currently a total of 226 prime items held by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek are shown in the World Digital Library.

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) takes part in a project supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for developing a national web portal for book manuscripts of the Middle Ages and the modern era held by German cultural institutions.
