A trained electrician and cooper, Josef Beierl (1905 – missing in 1943) took up producing skis, thus becoming one of the first producers of skiing equipment in Berchtesgaden. He spent his free time climbing in the mountains and skiing and discovered photography as a hobby at an early stage. He documented his excursions preferably with a self-timer. Beierl’s images show the Berchtesgadener Land region, its surroundings and the life of the photographer’s family in the 1920s and 1930s.

The archive comprises around 800 images (negatives and prints). It was taken over from the ownership of Beierl’s heirs as a donation in 2018/2019.

The cataloguing and digitization have been completed.
