Music prints


With over 455,000 volumes of printed sheet music (Musica practica, Mus.pr.), the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek holds one of the most extensive collections in this area worldwide. The focus is on early prints of sheet music of the 16th and 17th century. The library further owns numerous first editions of music materials of the 18th and 19th century. In addition, there are around 146,450 monographs and over 2,140 current journal subscriptions.

The collection further includes literature on the history and theory of music (Musica theoretica, Mus.th.), biographies of musicians, encyclopaedias and reference books and early music journals.
