Albanica

The Albanian collection of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek includes media from Albania and Kosovo, the rest of South-Eastern Europe (predominantly also from the Albanian settlement areas in Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece and the Serbian Preševo valley), from Italy (above all also Arbëresh literature) and all other areas of the worldwide Albanian diaspora. This is complemented by literature about Albania-related topics from the rest of the world.

The major part of the collection still consists of printed materials. The library further holds extensive American archive materials about Albania from the period between 1910 and 1963 on microfilm. Most historical Albanian holdings are freely available in retro-digitized, full-text form and can be retrieved via the library catalogue. The total holdings amount to around 15,500 monographs, among them at least 11,000 in the Albanian language.

Literature from and about Albania amounts to approximately 12,400 volumes and is increased annually by around 750 monographs. In addition, there are around 20 current and further 150 discontinued periodicals.
