The General Reading Room, offering 525 working places, is now open again from 8:00 to 24:00 on all seven days of the week. In addition, the opening hours of the East European, Oriental and Asian Reading Room are extended by two hours daily. It is now open on week days from 9:00 to 19:00.
All reading rooms can be accessed solely subject to prior reservation. The reading-place reservation system introduced independently of the Covid pandemic has proven highly effective. Visits to reading rooms can thus be planned more easily and the numbers of visitors, particularly at peak times, can be regulated. This ensures optimum working conditions for our users. Using the reservation system on the website or the reservation app of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, users can book their desired place and time slot.
Dr. Klaus Ceynowa, Director General of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek: "The current adaptations mean that we do not simply revert to the opening hours of the time before the Covid pandemic. Instead, we are enhancing our services in all reading rooms. The reservation system makes visits to the reading rooms much easier to plan, thus fundamentally optimising working conditions there."
