"Zeitgeschichte Open" provides free access to publication series and individual publications edited by the IfZ. At the time of the online launch of the platform, initially two series are available, "Studien zur Zeitgeschichte" and "Zeitgeschichte im Gespräch". The free-of-charge online provision of these and of further publications in the future will normally take place at a time offset from the publication of the printed editions. Prospectively, also digitized materials from the IfZ archive will be made accessible on the server. In addition to free access to the document, "Zeitgeschichte Open" also offers the option to search individual publication series and omnibus works, as well as a full-text search mode. Further search options will be added as required.
Moreover, "Zeitgeschichte Open" sets great value by networking. Thus, the metadata will also be searchable on LeibnizOpen in the future, the central platform for open-access publications of all institutions of the Leibniz community. In addition, also an interconnection with historicum.net – Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies is planned. On the one hand, the documents of "Zeitgeschichte Open" are intended to be incorporated in a document server for the entire field of historical studies, which is likewise being developed by the Center for Electronic Publishing of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. On the other hand, "Zeitgeschichte Open" will be incorporated in the research portal of historicum.net shortly, thus allowing comprehensive, simultaneous search together with 28 further data sources.
