Relaunch of the "Digital East Asia Collections"

In the "Digital East Asia Collections", the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek presents digitized Chinese, Japanese and Korean manuscripts and printed works from its extensive holdings stemming from East Asia. The digital copies have been prepared in a digitization project supported by the German Research Foundation and in cooperation with Google. The web portal was relaunched on 1 February 2018.

The viewer "Mirador" is now used and the image display has been adapted to the international IIIF standard.

The content has been expanded considerably as well: Currently, over two million individual images are accessible. A major part of the copyright-free Japanese holdings and a major part of the copyright-free Chinese holdings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek can be searched comfortably with the aid of various search access points and can be viewed page by page. This means that one of Europe's great collections of East Asian works is freely accessible online from all over the world.
