Personal papers of Count August von Platen digitized in their entirety

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has digitized the total of the extensive personal papers of Count August von Platen, which have been preserved by the library since 1870 and include many thousand pages. This means that the complete oeuvre of the Romantic author, who lived from 1796 to 1835, is now accessible online.

The personal papers include lyrical and dramatic poetry in various versions, historical-scientific studies, numerous translations, extensive correspondence and a diary kept over many years.

"The grave in the Busento" (1820) is considered one of the most widely known lays of German literature. You are now welcome to browse various versions of the poem in Platen's own handwriting.
