The core of the portal is the search function osmikonSEARCH, which enables users to search numerous German and international library catalogues, bibliographies, specialist databases and online repositories all at the same time. Moreover, osmikon offers possibilities for electronic publishing, information on research data management, subject-related dossiers and much more.

osmikon is a collaborative project of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Collegium Carolinum, the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe – Institute of the Leibniz Association and the Leibniz Institute for the Research of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. At the same time, osmikon is the portal of the Specialised Information Service for Russian, East and Southeast European Studies at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within this scope.
