New regulation as of 15 July concerning taking photographs of library holdings in the reading rooms

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek amends its house rules, applicable as of 15 July 2024. In the future, it is permitted to take photographs of pages from library holdings in the reading rooms, provided that no flash light is used, other visitors are not incommoded and legal provisions, such as copyright, personal rights and data protection rules are complied with.

For legal reasons or reasons of conservation, there may be exceptions to the photographing permission for accordingly marked areas of the library and for individual media or collection groups. Materials which must not be photographed are marked with an insert strip upon provision for collection.

For shooting films and television recordings, as well as for taking photographs of the premises for commercial or professional purposes, the prior approval of the Press Office of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, and in the case of library holdings, the prior approval of the relevant specialised department continues to be required.
