"musiconn – für vernetzte Musikwissenschaft": a new trademark for the Specialised Information Service for Musicology

At the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) and the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) services for the expert community of musicologists have been developed within the scope of the project "Specialised Information Service for Musicology" (Fachinformationsdienst, FID) supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Since January 2018, these services have been pooled together under the new trademark "musiconn – für vernetzte Musikwissenschaft" (musiconn – Network for Musicology).

musiconn comprises the following activities and services, among other things:

  • Virtual Library of Musicology (www.vifamusik.de) at the BSB
  • Emphasis on acquiring and/or licensing printed sheet music, music literature, music journals and e-media at the BSB
  • Specialised musicological repository at the SLUB
  • Further development and operation of the presentation system for the "Répertoire International des Sources Musicales" (RISM-OPAC) at the BSB
  • Further development and operation of the German RIdIM database ("Répertoire International d’Iconographie Musicale") at the BSB
  • Central search tool for music performance ephemera (concert programmes) at the SLUB
  • Cataloguing and long-term archiving of websites of relevance to musicology at the BSB
  • Expansion of RISM to become a central catalogue for music prints of the 16th to the 18th century at the SLUB
  • Development of a melody search tool working on the basis of OMR data ("optical music recognition") at the BSB
