Art between Covers
Art between Covers – WHAT
Jonathan Meese (*23 January 1970 in Tokyo) is one of Germany’s most famous artists of the present and has authored a four-page, handwritten "manifesto" specifically for the artists’ book blog. Manifestos constitute a central part of his work, and this one here is dedicated to one of his most important artist’s books, the "Mondparsifal", which was acquired for the Libri Selecti collection of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

In addition, Meese permitted the publication of studio images documenting the creation of the "Mondparsifal".
Meese considers the book as an artistic genre equal to painting, sculpture, performance, etc. Published in a very small edition of 20 copies, this book in particular addresses Richard Wagner, one of his personal heroes. The "Mondparsifal" thus becomes, in Meese’s words, a "declaration of total love" to art, representative to his overall work in any respect.
Titled "Mondmanifesto. Jonathan Meese bloggt Radikalstoff" ("Mondmanifesto. Jonathan Meese blogs radical stuff"), the blog article includes the manifesto, its integration in and connections to the great exhibition at the Pinakothek der Moderne in 2018/19.
