Further information on the project

In addition to a brief overview of the history of papermaking, the cabinets show a multiplicity of watermarks in the context of the manuscripts.

The motifs mirror the design concepts of their time and, besides indications for the historical classification of the sources, also give interesting insights into cultural-historical relationships.

The exhibition also features two paper screens lent to the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek by the Deutsches Museum for the duration of the cabinet presentation.
