bavarikon presents musical treasures from the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

More than 60 outstanding items from the music collection of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek are available now in the culture portal bavarikon in the form of high-resolution digital copies. Among them are manuscripts written in person by important composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert.

Also handwritten choir books from the time of Renaissance and printed sheet music going back to the music collection of the court library and of the Bavarian court music ensemble can now be viewed in detail in bavarikon.

To the musical treasures of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

With regard to the quantity and quality of its historical holdings and due to the traditionally broad acquisition profile, the music collection of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is one of the internationally leading music libraries. In its stacks, currently around 455,000 sheet-music prints, 72,000 music manuscripts, 330 sets of personal papers, 93,000 music sound recordings and 164,000 music books and music periodicals are kept.
