The objective of the project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is the open-access transformation of a publication series central to classical studies.

The publication series "Millennium-Studien" published by De Gruyter, so far included 86 relevant monographs from the field of classical studies. In the project TransMill, the books are to be made freely accessible to an interested public in open access. An open-access publication is intended via the "golden road" also for the recent issues of the series of the years 2021/22.

Looking beyond this initial project, a medium-term and long-term funding concept is required, which can be used exemplarily for future transformation ventures of this kind. In order to enable as many interested parties as possible to take part in the project, the transformation to open access is accompanied by target-group oriented public relations work.

The project is funded from means of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Means from the "Specialised Information Service for Classical Studies – Propylaeum”, which is funded by the DFG, are used for part of the transformation of the backlist.
