So far, the possibilities of using web archives for scholarly purposes have not been tested extensively and are little known in research.

The testing of innovative and intuitive use scenarios using methods of data mining and link mining, as well as a science-theoretical classification of web archives as sources for research are in the focus of this exploration project. Moreover, scholars are to be put in a position to apply these methods and tools in order to use web archives as research data.

To verify the applicability of the methods and tools in research, a political-scientific case study is carried out for an analysis of the regional parliamentary election (Landtagswahl) in Bavaria of 2018 and of the European election of 2019 on the basis of related event crawls.

In addition, it will be analysed in the project to what extent the application of digital humanities methods to existing collections of web archives can support institutions in expanding and maintaining them.
