Funding of the collection field of philosophy

The special subject field of collection of philosophy, which was formerly managed by the University Library of Erlangen-Nuremberg, was abolished in the course of the transition from the DFG funding programme of "Sondersammelgebiete" to the new funding programme of "Fachinformationsdienste für die Wissenschaft" (Specialised Information Services for Science and Scholarship) since 2013. The funds generously provided by the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation put the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in a position to close this provision gap and to establish a Germany-wide center of collection emphasis on philosophy.

In the course of the next five years, the Foundation will make available funding in the amount of € 180,000 annually for the acquisition of monographs. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek will continue spending the annual amount of € 100,000 from its own budget for this collection.

The support by the Foundation is based on the expectation that an appropriate public funding of the collection area of philosophy can be ensured again after the five-year period.
