Bavarian Library Academy

The Bavarian Library Academy (Bibliotheksakademie Bayern) is responsible for the vocational training and further training of librarians in Bavaria.

Within the framework of administrative contracts, it is additionally in charge of the theoretical training of candidates and junior librarians (Anwärter, Referendare) of the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein and of the Library of the German Bundestag.

It provides information to persons interested in becoming a librarian, organises the practical training of the qualification levels of the professional career "Education and Science", specialising in librarianship, and provides the theoretical training of the second and fourth qualification level. The Bavarian Library Academy is the examination authority for all qualification levels, including the examinations within the framework of modular qualification.

With respect to Bavaria-wide further training, the Academy ascertains the demand for further training of the academic libraries, develops training concepts and organises training courses, also in cooperation with other providers.
