An overview of the department

The Department of Eastern Europe is the largest special department of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. We have a large area of activity: Eastern Europe also comprises East-Central and South-East Europe and, with Russia, it also extends far into Asia. The relevant collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, i. e. literature from and about Eastern Europe, amount to approximately 1.5 million volumes according to a current estimate.
