The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is a member of the association subito e. V., running a document delivery service by name of subito. Customers can research and order copies of books belonging to the collections of the participating libraries and can request the direct delivery of the documents around the clock. subito developed out of the initiative by the German Federal State and the German Laender to speed up the provision of information and literature, and was financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The BMBF supported subito both in the development of its services and in the DOD (document order reception and delivery) project.

In the year 2005 the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek was the most successful and largest subito delivery library, with almost 300,000 accepted and processed requests.
