Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) with Répertoire International d’Iconographie Musicale (RIDIM)
Arbeitsgruppe Deutschland e. V. – Arbeitsstelle München
c/o Bayerische Staatsbibliothek
Ludwigsstr. 16
80539 Munich

The "Répertoire International d’Iconographie Musicale" (RIdIM) was founded in 1972 by representatives of three musicological/ academic organisations, the:
International Council of Museums (ICOM)
International Musicological Society (IMS)
International Association of Music Libaries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML)

With the aid of this international network the indexing and cataloguing of representations of music and dance in the fine arts (painting, graphics, etc., including handicrafts) is to be systematized and substantially expanded. Regarding its standards and organisation (structuring into individual Land groups) the research project orients itself on RISM, the International Inventory of Musical Sources, which was founded already in 1952.

The Munich RIdIM branch office was founded in 1979 as a spin-off of the German working group of RISM at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Since then the branch office has been examining the holdings particularly of larger collections (museums and libraries) in Germany and cataloguing the relevant objects. Since 1989 the cataloguing has taken place with the aid of a database, which has been accessible online since December 2007 within the framework of the subject portal "Virtual Library of Musicology" of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
