The historical research institutions seated in Munich will intensify their cooperation in the future. Their representatives signed a multilateral cooperation agreement on 4 August 2014 in the presence of the Bavarian Minister of Science Ludwig Spaenle.

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Collegium Carolinum, the Historisches Kolleg, the Historical Commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Commission for Bavarian regional history at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Monumenta Germaniae Historica and, as associated partners, the Institute of Contemporary History and the Faculty of History and the Arts of the LMU Munich, have reached an agreement on multilateral cooperation, thus strengthening the position of historical sciences in Munich. "The close cooperation brings about synergy effects which will strengthen the research location of Munich in Germany and abroad," said Karl-Heinz Hoffmann, President of the Academy.

The agreement aims at improving the visibility of the historical research institutions and their research work. In the future, a joint Internet portal, joint events and focused media work will share the complete bandwidth of historical research in Munich not only with the international expert public, but also with interested members of the general public. With three joint working groups, "papers, events, summer schools", "digital humanities" and "public relations", the institutionally independent cooperation partners intend to combine their competences in these fields.

Electronic publication formats represent i.a. central responsibilities of the cooperating institutions. With the "Munich Digitization Center" and the "Center for Electronic Publishing", the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek makes important infrastructural services available for innovative working and publishing methods in the field of humanities.
