Cooperation with the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China

On 23 October 2014, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek signed a cooperation agreement with the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province.

Initiated by the partnership between the Free State of Bavaria and the Chinese province of Guangdong, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has been in contact with the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, located in the provincial capital Guangzhou, for a long time.

According to the German definition, the Sun Yat-sen Library is part public library and part scholarly library. Managing a collection of printed media of more than five million volumes and 26,000 journals, the library offers its users access to a large number of electronic resources (i.a. to over 1.2 million e-books and 15 million journal articles), and has more than 20 branch libraries in many districts of the province Guangdong. Accordingly, it plays an important role in the provision of digital information in the economically and technologically outstanding metropolitan area of Hong Kong – Shenzhen – Guangzhou.

The cooperation agreement focuses on joint projects in the field of innovative technologies (in view of the internationally networked digital library of the future), the mutual exchange of know how (e.g. in the field of digital services or restoration technologies), as well as the exchange of digital copies and the access to databases subject to license.
