Allianz Schriftliches Kulturgut Erhalten (Alliance for the Preservation of the Written Cultural Heritage)

Libraries and archives preserve the memory of mankind. They are investing huge amounts in the preservation of the written cultural heritage of Germany also for future generations. In order to concentrate forces in regard of these tasks, major German libraries and archives joined to form the Allianz Schriftliches Kulturgut Erhalten (Alliance for the Preservation of the Written Cultural Heritage) in 2001 on the initiative of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.

The Alliance's work is currently concentrating on the following goals:

• Developing a national strategy for cooperative collection conservation
• Anchoring the preservation of the written cultural heritage as a national task in the public awareness
• Creating a stable institutional framework for the work of the "Alliance", in order to enforce this important matter

The "Alliance" cooperates closely with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance and the German Research Foundation.
