recensio.regio: Bayerische Staatsbibliothek launches research portal for regional-historical specialist journals

Historians and everybody interested in regional history can use the research platform "recensio.regio – Rezensionsplattform für die Landesgeschichte" (review platform for regional history) as of now. At the address www.recensio-regio.net, the portal offers access to reviews of regional-historical specialist journals, constituting a primary point of access for information on recent publications about regional history in the German language. The reviews of the cooperating journals are available to the users in full-text search mode. The platform can be accessed freely and free of charge.

The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has enlisted eleven renowned specialist journals on German regional history as cooperation partners right at the start, totalling in 830 reviews. Among them are the Rheinische Viertelahresblätter, the Neues Archiv für sächsische Geschichte and the Zeitschrift für Württembergische Landesgeschichte.

The goal of recensio.regio is to provide the community of experts on regional history with a central access point for reviews. The portal thus makes it possible to observe beyond one's own region which prevailing topics are being researched and discussed in other regions. In addition, recensio.regio also increases the visibility of German regional-historical research on an international level.

recensio.regio complements the successfully introduced platform recensio.net, whose focus is on European history. Since its launch in the year 2011, recensio.net has achieved to more than double the number of cooperating specialist journals, offering almost 31,000 reviews from 47 European history journals today. recensio.regio constitutes a service for the history of countries and regions with a sharpened profile that meets the specific requirements of this expert community. Further portals with different orientations of content are being planned.

The platform has been developed in the context of the Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies (Fachinformationsdienst Geschichtswissenschaft) domiciled at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and funded by the German Research Foundation. The Working Group Regional History of the German Historical Association (Verband der Historiker und Historikerinnen Deutschlands, VHD) is acting in an advisory capacity.

Dr. Klaus Ceynowa, Director General of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek: "The successful concept of recensio.net shows clearly that carefully devised digital services offer a substantial added value to the expert community. This is continued by recensio.regio on a regional level."
