"Bilderwelten". The annual exhibition 2016/ 2017
The 15th and 16th centuries were marked by the transition from the manuscript to book printing. The current, tripartite exhibition of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek illuminates the role played by book illumination during this exciting period. Titled "Bilderwelten – Buchmalerei zwischen Mittelalter und Neuzeit" ("Worlds of illustrations – Book illustrations between the Middle Ages and the modern era"), the exhibition shows outstanding examples of German and central-European book illumination.
Dr. Fabian, Head of the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books, gives a brief introduction to the historical situation and the exhibition.
Dr. Pfändtner, the curator of the exhibition, explains peculiarities and curiosities with reference to three exhibits.
