eBooks on Demand

Project duration: 01.10.2006 - 30.06.2008
Funding:  EU Support Programme eTEN

eBooks on Demand (EOD) is a market research project with a service to order complete electronic copies of copyright-free books. This EU project was launched in October 2006 with thirteen European libraries from eight European countries, allowing the users to order millions of eBooks. The publications on offer were published between 1501 and around 1900. Users can order digital copies via the corresponding catalogues of the participating institutions. Upon completion the eBooks are delivered to the orderer at a charge. Possible delivery options are for example download via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or delivery on a data carrier (CD/ DVD). The purchasers are furnished with PDF files, which can be used by means of a free-of-charge standard software, and which consist of image files and - if possible - searchable and processable full text.
Since the end of the project, the service eBooks on Demand is continued as  document delivery service at the Bavarian State Library.
